First Tournament Madness!!!

Our flgs in Willow Springs, MO had their first Warmachine and Hordes event. We had a great event and most of all, everyone had fun. From the newest of the new to the saltiest of the salty the full gamut was on parade. I couldn't be more proud of the culture that is evolving in this store. Here are some action pics from the brutal battles in round one.

Anticipation...

The days leading up to a game are always crazy for me. Eagerness mixed with anxiety. I have to make sure all the pieces fall into place perfectly it life will take away my precious game day.

Some games were had...

The group got together and played some brutal games of Warmachine/Hordes last Saturday. Daemortus and his cryx squared off against my trolls and after a couple of brutal turns Gaspy1 took down Grissel1.
We got Seige out to play a game and have a good time. Our thoughts and prayers go out to him and his family during this most trying time.

Here is a pic of all that was left...

Our hearts go out...

While we had some good games of warmachine and hordes yesterday all the good was shrouded by some harsh news for one of our own. Siege's mom has been dealt some harsh medical news, and we all want him to know the whatever he needs we are there for him.

A game pic from my game vs one of our newer players.

And then there was gaming...

We had another great game session, but it was bittersweet.  One of our new members "Und Becks" is accepting a job in another town.  This was his final session as our lizardman barbarian - Hiss.  We will miss him and all wish him the best.
Our second foray into the underdark was fairly successful and saw the inclusion of our biggest party ever.  7 players bellied up to the table and we took on the ominous forces of the Top-knot trolls.  If you haven't played 5th edition, or just not encountered trolls, they have gotten some significant buffs.  Double the hit points, better regeneration, and more damage to their attacks have made them some pretty mean customers.  Lots of fun was had by all and the funnel cakes were awesome!

The game so far...

Any of you reading this will no doubt already know that our group has progressed the campaign to new and terrifying heights. We have begun our sojourn into book 2 of "The Night Below". I personally have only one thing to say about this book so far "Trolls Suck". Our group has come a long way. True teamwork really has really shown through.

The week before this latest game we had an impromptu warmahordes game at Dirt Road. It got interrupted, but was still pretty fun. Here is a shot from Siege's game with me that got shut down early.

Impromptu Games are the best games...

By happenstance we had the opportunity to get the guys out at Dirt Road on Saturday.  It was some good fun.  I got a bunch of my new trolls assembled! Siege and I started a game but got interrupted by real life.  Here is a pic from the bottom of turn one. Everything was just about to hit the fan.

And a new record set...

After 3 concurrent sessions we have blazed our way through book 1 of "The Night Below"!  I am pretty sure this is a record for all of Gamedom.  It was fitting that we achieved this milestone at the place where our group began:  Leviathan's Parents's basement.
With our bellies full of home-cooked confidence and our hearts welling up with nostalgic feels we conquered all the evils that Harranshire had to offer.  A part of our get togethers was always the Espirit de Corps that brought us from all the pursuits that our "real" lives held.  No matter what is going on in our lives we were/are always seated among equals.  I have never known a finer group of people, on or off the table, than this group.

Eagerly awaiting...

Our next game is scheduled for next weekend. I personally am eager to get book one behind us and forge ahead into parts unknown. This is our 4th attempt to play this box set. I have been there for every attempt and have had fun every time. First there was the necromancer. He wasn't evil and viewed his magic as the other side of a coin. Healing +/-.  The second was as an elvish Mage/Rogue. This character covered two spots and was very fun to play. Attempt #3 was hallmarked by our largest party yet. I felt privileged to roll a gnome cleric of Gond. This and Theoclese's fighter were going to put weaponry into production and change the world.
The previous attempts were all in 2nd edition d&d. After rolling in 5th Ed it feels like we were almost held back by the old rule set. Our experience so far has been great!

To the pop-up game...

In our earlier years games formed a couple times a week by simply picking up the phone and saying "It's game time". Today it is all about the plan and schedule. Last weekend we had a reminder of what it used to be like before "Real Life" crept in. A couple of phone calls were made and we had the old group back together!  We played a couple of games of warmachine and had a great time. Siege and I played a 35 pt incursion game that was a nail bitter until the bitter end. We are fairly non aggressive players normally, so us having our casters within 5 inches of each other at the end of the game tells a pretty brutal story. That is Madrak Ironhide, thornwood chieftain vs. The Harbinger of Menoth. The impaler came through in the clutch.

Don't Feed the Trolls...

I have recently acquired a Trollbloods army from Daemortus and am eager to field it on the table!  I went ahead and filled out my rare PG order to get this small troll army some friends!

And the second session...

Was freaking awesome!

Leviathan and I convinced the WP crowd to roll up to SPR for the second installment of "The Night Below". This session, much like the first, was terrific. Our characters are hitting levels 3 and 4. Specs have been chosen and a ton of progress has been made. Can't wait for the next installment.

Back in the saddle...

Recently I have decided to get back into the Hordes side of Warmahordes. The faction will be Trollbloods and I'm pretty excited to tryout all of the new options available.

An update for the new year...

We have been very lax in updating the blog, but I think that is about to change.  We recently started a new campaign in the 5th edition of D&D.  Leviathan is reviving a 2nd ed module The Night Below.  The cast of characters:

Scargrim the Black - Dwarven Fighter - Party Leader - Daemortus
Zook Sparklegold   - Gnomish Rogue - Siege
Dahrin                    - Human Cleric of Shaundakul - Theocolese
Alrik Wymanson    - Elvish Wizard/Invoker - Zedudicus

We had a very promising first game session and covered a solid month of "in-game" questing.  I, personally, am looking forward to our next session and hopefully introduction of our 5th player. I will try and keep our exploits up to date as we try and rid Harenshire and its surroundings of evil.
